Reliance Jio has once again hit the headlines with a new surprise to its customers and this time not with any voice or data plans but with the most sought after reality game “Pokemon GO”.
Reliance Jio Brings Pokemon GO Augmented Reality Game to India
That’s right! Ending the wait for millions of gaming lovers in India, Pokémon GO has finally come to India, owing to a new partnership between Reliance Jio and Niantic.
With this partnership, Reliance Digital Stores and select partner premises across the country will appear as ‘PokéStops’ or ‘Gyms’ in the Pokémon GO game beginning from Wednesday, December 14, 2016.
Also, this partnership will enable Jio SIM customers to download and play Pokemon GO without incurring data charges till March 31, 2017, as part of Jio’s Happy New Year Offer.
The launch is an effort by Jio to equip Indians with entertainment-based apps such as Pokémon GO, the ruling app in the gaming category.
John Hanke, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Niantic, said:-
“We are delighted to partner with Jio to launch Pokémon GO in India. It’s exciting to see Pokémon fans in India step out and explore their neighborhoods in search of Pokémon and Jio’s disruptive high-speed 4G LTE Network will be an excellent way to experience the game.”
Both the companies will be working in coordination to make the experience of Indian gamers more rich and enjoyable. Their strategy also includes the activation of Jio retail locations and charging stations as PokéStops and Gyms in the game and giving Indian gamers a chance to catch, train and fight it out at any of the outlets of Jio in India.
JioChat, the social messaging app of Jio will have an exclusive Pokemon GO channel where all the players can meet, chat and be a part of the community where contests and events will be organized in order to make the game more exciting and enjoyable.

Our partnership with Niantic not only brings access to the Pokémon GO app but also opens the door to more opportunities for our customers to enjoy content on Jio’s one-of-a-kind mobile broadband network.”
This is more exciting for the Pokemon GO Indian players as they will play on a strong network and they don’t need to incur charges for downloading and playing the game as Jio is offering its services for free until 31st March 2017.
